I've got a friends Dell Inspiron 6000 here and its got a corrupt hard drive. I am trying to install a fresh copy of (haxed) windows on it and when I choose the DVD drive as the boot device it just ignores me and tries to boot from HD anyway.

Any ideas?

problem solved. Had to actually disable the HD as a boot device in order to get the disc to boot.

Dells use crappy drives all-around. I've had all sorts of boot problems with them.

boot sector was definatly corrupt. Took FOREVER to install windows on that thing. Probably only spins at 5400RPM. They should make 5400RPM drive illegal. Thats painfully slow.

If its a laptop its most likely 5400RPM

You can get laptops with 7200RPM drives.

I know that, I'm not dumb, I said it is most likely because most laptop drives are 5400RPM because of the lower power consumption
