Hello! I am an old Xenimus player. I have never been very active on these forums (besides a very long time ago in like 2004/2005 when I was like 12. Full disclosure, some people may remember me as the brother of Kaz/Drayke/Radical, etc but probably not. I know he was a controversial individual on here.

I am here to share with you something I've been working on for the last month or so. I am currently a software developer and in my spare time, I enjoy making games. I know Xenimus revival projects have all failed so I don't expect the same level of enthusiasm but take a look and see if you like it.

Here is a video of the current progress

And here is a plug for my development blog

I know traffic here is very slow but if you like what you see feel free to reach out. The most up to date information on this project can always be found here on my project manager,

I am actively working on it. My Trello page has feature cards on it that are in the queue for implementation. As long as things move on the Trello page, development will still be moving forward.

I am currently spending an average of ~20 hours a week on development. Stay posted.

Your brother was a dickhead (we were all dickheads back then though) - didn't he claim he got emancipated or something because his parents couldn't deal with him being gay?

Game looks cool, keep updating!

Part of the charm of xen was the dickead-erry that went on. Whether any of us realized it at the time.

Sprint 1 has ended and I am heading into sprint 2. take a look

Your suggestion has been recorded :)
https://trello.com/c/exPnv16S/63-submitted-suggestions

I'll keep a running list of anyone who has any reasonable suggestions organized under their name. These won't be a definitive list of features I plan on implementing, but for ease of access I think it'll be helpful to record.

Yay suggestions to be recorded! <3
Awesome updates thus far.

I haven't played the game religiously in such a long ass time (R.I.P. Marilyn Manson)
But! few other suggestions I know Ej f- with, like taking away the use of shields and daggers from wizards, betting a lot of people been missing the hell out of that. lawl

Also, a curious question, the soundtracks used for towns, log-in page, monsters, players, etc.. gonna be using any oldschool tracks back in the day like the original theme? or that just asking for a lawsuit from the all mighty thayer?

I wish I could, but I think any asset at all related to xenimus at all would stray into legal territory. To be honest I had checkered town squares (my own texture) and I changed it out of paranoia. So I am sad to say that I don't plan on having any original name/model/sound/texture from xenimus, but I do plan on using the genericized rpg themes that both our games share.

Xenimus' gameplay was pretty darn generic when it comes down to it, so my hope is to capture the small bits that made it fun.

That isn't to say I haven't explored this route, this is an early project I worked on before scrapping and moving to where I am today. I figured that if XPS failed then I certainly wasn't going to do anywhere near as good going that route.

(Warning, it's pretty bad)

Don't get me wrong, I will always love the shitty aesthetic that was oldschool Xenimus, but it isn't the route that I plan on going. I just want to make something that will make everyone feel nostalgic while also making them feel refreshed.

Actually a pretty hilarious video lol loved it though, just the sounds and..what looked like a cheap-squarish model of clock shrine at 0:35. figured you couldn't use some sounds and shit for the final project, but was worth the asking :P

And yeah back in the day Xenimus was pretty generic, basically PVP central, i honestly thought when i first played the 1.00, that those female rogues were players, dying meant losing everything you had on you, no level requirements on equipment, penguin-waddling movement, basic textures, and more hourly grinding than anyone cares to admit <3

also technically you could use the same or same-ish type of spell list. seeing as EJ can't exactly copyright the latin language lol, or be like.. Mederi? how bout Medicor (for example) means the exact same... I unno, its 10:50pm and i haven't slept in like 52 hours. just remembering the good ol days.

Hahaha I also thought the rogues were players. I remember trying to walk back to T3 from evil town wondering why a bunch of people hated me so much (of course there were actual players hunting the evil noobs through the forest back then)

I wouldn't mind scoping out spell names that would be suitable for the game. I know that Xenimus doesn't have exclusive rights to latin but I would still like to keep names of spells separate and distinct. If you want to map out names for analog versions for xenimus spells I would appreciate it. I am fairly open minded to anything. I am planning on working on spells next after I get melee combat where I want it to be so the time is fast approaching for that kind of fluff to be created.

I already created a few sets of items that are analogs for some of the more infamous xenimus sets. But I won't be showing those off in any demo ;)

any chance you'll allow customization of the GUI to move the chat box etc?

Post subject:  Re: Acteaus - my shot at beating the dead horse

Anything related to the UI can be made customizable at a later time. I already made most of the UI elements movable. I will see about saving UI layouts in a future point. I actually am doing something very similar to this at work.
