Nice stuff man. I donated to you at the beginning, please get a beta running soon so we donators can experience the game a bit. If it feels and plays like xen but better i will surely donate more.

Haven't posted here in a while,

Things are still going, although I've been quite lazy lately. There's nothing new to show at the moment in screenshots, hopefully we'll start working on content very very soon and get some stuff released ASAP.

I'm currently working on a Xenimus clone using Unity. Coincidentally it seems this board is on the same track.

Would you guys take offense if I post my game on this forum?

I think we'll end up with several Xenimus like games within a few years. Xenimus itself seems to have been on a slow decline for years now.

I'm 23, a computer science graduate, and currently employed as a software engineer. Also, you don't even know me? This is like my first post.

I do know you, You're that kid, from other forum, that puts commas, after every 3, words he writes, and cries to, EJ to nerf, everything in game, that you cannot afford.

I'll have something video worthy in a couple weeks if I'm not lazy. (Reading your posts I see the same mentality in myself... it's hard to work all day then fit a pretty large side project in).

Right now I have the basics: movement, multiplayer, logins, synced animations, and some object interaction (currently just chests).

Going into this not knowing all that much about the design of an online game so splitting things out between the server and the client is the most uncomfortable thing. The next uncomfortable thing is getting models prepped, so I'll be learning Blender to the point of competency so I'm not fully reliant on someone else. I've done some 2D game projects and some minor 3D projects, but this is the biggest software project I've started. I'll see how it goes...

From experience, I'd strongly recommend against that - I tried doing the same thing myself, and it is extremely time consuming and difficult to make 3-d models, and if you're not really good at it (not just from a technical point of view, also as an artist), you'll produce crap. You can design simple scenery yourself, if you just need to fill some voids, but otherwise try to fork up money to purchase the models from places like turbosquid.

The main thing that's really difficult to do is make character models and animate them. This is the kind of stuff it takes artists weeks to do, it's not a simple task.

I intend to buy most/all of my models, especially character models. The unity asset store has some nice full model sets for towns and dungeons. Just need to fill in gaps or adjust models. Scaling them to a common size would be nice.

No point scaling them to a common size, just add a scale as part of whatever you use to define content.

But by chance is there anyway you can get away with using Ejs old character models or make them similar.
I miss old scally, human, gnomes etc etc.. And miss old school Xenimus Christmas..
Old ogre camp with santas.
Fragor Agdredi..
Make it happen :p cries..

I miss Xen before update 1.56 sooo very much..

If someone found that he did not make those models, as well as a place I could purchase them from their original creator, yes. Otherwise it is illegal, even with modifications.

A spell that behaves like fragor and looks *similar* is ok. Using ejs models for it is not, though.

Of course we can always write an .mdj reader (ej cant own file formats, especially since mdj is just md2 with some modifications) and let users put their own unecrypted models in their copy of the client. But ejs shit uses an old shitty form of animations i'd have no interest in supporting. Also to the average user this would be far too difficult to do, youd need to find bone offsets for each model and shit.

This project has been inactive for the past two+ weeks, I've had a loooooooot of stuff going on in my life. I'm finally finding the time to come back to this now.

So anyway, I'm currently working on the spell system. I wont talk much about it until I see how it goes, very much in part because the average xenimite will be like f- that sucks!!! But basically, I can't find it in me to replicate Xen's pvp, I really can't. I can't say I'd be proud if I made a game where pvp revolved around two abilities (beam, trans) and spamming a med button. Instead, what I'm going to do is develop entirely new abilities - however, I will be developing this with fast-paced PvP in mind first and foremost.

What's the paypal address for donations? I plan on making a fairly substantial donation shortly. I'm very interested in the project.

I still think about this project pretty much every day, and I want to work on it, but as Andy said we're both very busy people and don't get around to doing much.

There's also the timezone difference. With what we've decided we need to do lately it requires both me and Andy to work together, but we're like 8hrs apart timezone-wise. It's really difficult to get shit done that way... Not to mention I have my own work for this that I reallllly am not looking forward to doing (either getting CEGUI's shit to work right or re-writing GUI entirely).

If this project really does die, I intend to refund all donations at my own expense.

This freakin thread. Every time I look through it, I just want to start working on this actively again.

Which leads me to my next point: I'm working on this actively again :D

GUI as I said above needs serious redesign so that will be my next focus.
